CuseRecorder on the scene as firefighters arrive at a house fire on Saturday in East Syracuse, New York.

Douglas Dowty, Syracuse.com:

Two residents escaped without injury after an East Syracuse fire that started on a rear porch, fire officials said.

The fire in a subdivided house in the 600 block of West Manlius Street was extinguished 10 minutes after firefighters arrived this afternoon, said Fire Chief Robert Russell.

The rear porch is located on the second floor, at the top of a flight of stairs, Russell said. The residents evacuated as the fire spread into the house, damaging a rear kitchen.
