Previous coverage of this fire

This is video from Michael Schwartzberg of the two-alarm vacant house fire in York Township, Pennsylvania that occurred on August 17th during the annual convention of the Firefighters Association of York County. We previously played a short bit of radio communications from that fire that sparked a number of comments over the request for Command to call a fire investigator by phone. Here’s Michael’s description of the fire:

On Saturday, August 17, 2013, around 1100 hours, fire apparatus from across Central Pennsylvania were arriving at the staging and judging area for the annual York County Fireman’s Convention parade hosted by the Leo Fire Company (Red Lion) and Goodwill Fire Company (York Township) when a column of smoke could be seen. York County Fire Dispatch alerted units for smoke in the area of Springwood Road near Interstate 83. First arriving FD units reported a working structure fire in a 2-story vacant house on Chestnut Hill Road several thousand feet down a side road and requested additional resources. Initial firefighting efforts were hampered by water supply issues and limited access and command requested a second alarm as the fire grew in intensity. Many units responded from the parade area to assst on the fire, including some from neighboring counties and an aerial truck from Abingdon in Harford County, Maryland.
