A Corlies Avenue home caught fire Thursday afternoon and the blaze quickly spread to a neighboring home, causing extensive damage to both structures, witnesses at the scene said.
At around 3:10 p.m. firefighters were still spraying water on the charred buildings.
Crossing guard Ronald Coleman said he was sitting on his front porch about to go to the corner to help area students after school when he noticed smoke coming from the home across the street.
“I turned around and told my son to call the fire department and just as quick as I did that the whole front was in flames. It was very fast,” Coleman said.
