Robert Garrey told WPRO radio that he helped three people out of the building. The Central Falls man said two of them – a woman and an infant – appeared unharmed, but he said a man was badly burned. All three had been on the home’s third floor.
Pawtucket Police Major Martins said a man and a baby who live on the third floor were transported to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries isn’t yet known. An eyewitness told us the man suffered burns while trying to protect his family.
A woman who lived in the apartment was able to make it out safely.
There are reports an off-duty Providence firefighter entered the burning apartment and helped the residents to safety. Providence Mayor Angel Taveras congratulated him for his bravery in a tweet, identifying him as Jermaine Woods.
