Firefighter accidentally shoots fellow firefighter during water rescue operation in Louisiana

The injured firefighter has been identified by Bossier Parish Sheriff’s spokesperson Bill Davis as Captain Charles “Chucky” Stevens of South Bossier Fire District #2. Davis said Stevens is doing “much better” and he hopes to come home in the next couple of days.

Bossier Sheriff’s spokesman Bill Davis said the firefighter was injured when a firefighter from Benton Fire District #4 accidentally discharged his weapon Monday evening in the Greenwell Springs Road area of Baton Rouge.

The two were part of a task force deployed from Bossier Parish to assist in the flood rescue efforts in Baton Rouge.

Investigators say the bullet first hit a boat and then hit the fireman. Both firefighters are members of the Bossier Parish Water and Technical Emergency Rescue team, which includes firefighters from the Bienville Parish Fire District, according to Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Bill Davis.

According to Benton Fire District 4 Fire Chief J.T. Wallace, the firefighters were putting boats into the water when the fireman’s gun accidentally discharged.
