Stunned neighbours watched from across the street at J.C. Beemer Park as a house at 315 Wilson St. collapsed in a fiery heap Monday afternoon.
Firefighters had been at the scene of the central Hamilton fire for about an hour, attempting to prevent flames from spreading to nearby buildings when the home collapsed.
Neighbours said a woman lived at the home with two dogs and a cat. It's believed she left the home with the dogs in her car just before neighbours heard an explosion inside.
Fire department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci said firefighters did not enter the building and were fighting the fire from the outside.
