Montgomery County has big water problems outside the Beltway. Many places with no or low pressure due to major break.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission on Monday issued a boil water advisory for Montgomery County residents living outside the beltway. Only customers who receive their water from the City of Rockville are except.

The precautionary warning follows a major water main break in Derwood late Sunday night. WSSC spokesperson Lyn Riggins says that the break occurred just above Lake Bernard Frank near Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg, MD. Many homes across the county have either no water or low water pressure. WSSC says there is no indication the water is contaminated. But to be safe, they urged everyone in the affected area bring water to a rolling boil for one minute and cooled before drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food.

The advisory will continue until the system is flushed and the water is tested. WSSC says that could be at least three days.WSSC is also urging residents to conserve water. As a result, the following mandatory restrictions are now in effect (from WSSC):

No outside watering

No filling swimming pools

No laundry

No dishwashing

Limit toilet flushing

These restrictions will remain in effect until some time later today.
