According to reports at the scene, the fire, which was first reported at 9:25 a.m., started at 128 S. Vine St., a half-double home, and spread, through the walls and attic, to 126 S. Vine, an adjoining dwelling. The fire occurred in a neighborhood that is commonly referred to as “Hogan’s Alley,” located to the rear of South Pearl Street.

A second alarm was called in at 9:34 a.m., followed by a third at 10:13. Black smoke and some flames were initially observed on a side porch area near the Shurocks’ kitchen.
