The video above is from the Olathe Fire Department taken at a house fire on Monday afternoon. They referred to it as a "flashover". In our comments section you will see that, as I expected, others would differ and see it as a smoke explosion and/or backdraft. Or, as one esteemed writer to our comments section wrote, the event may have been triggered by a flashover of the room to the far right.

From WDAF-TV:

The fire destroyed the home near South Sheridan and West Dennis streets. The homeowners were not in the house at the time of the blaze, but rescuers managed to save the couple’s dog, a three-year-old Lab mix named Jay-Jay.

“I stepped in and coaxed the dog to me,” Olathe Police Officer Travis Shoemaker said. “I wasn’t sure if it would be mean or not. I just kicked in the door and he came right to me.”

From KCTV-TV:

Officer Travis Shoemaker was the first to arrive on the scene. He kicked in the door and plunged inside to save the dog, who was home alone. The smoke and fire became so intense that the officer had to drop to his feet and crawl to the couch where the lab was huddled.

Shoemaker then carried the dog to safety. The neighbor had thought two more dogs were inside the home, but they weren't.

However, the family's cat is missing.
