Police chopper finds missing Beltsville, MD woman in the snow

Every once in a while we delve into the police side of public safety. Here’s one that has a nice ending. The aviation unit for the Prince George’s County Police Department assisted in the search for a critical missing person in the snow near an apartment complex in Beltsville, Maryland last night. They found the 80-year-old woman and guided an officer on the ground to her location. The temperature outside was 9 degrees.

Police notified the Aviation Unit. The flight crew on Air 1 headed towards the 11200 block of Evans Trail in Beltsville. Police the pilot and tactical flight officer used the helicopter’s thermal imaging system, FLIR, and noticed a hot spot in some nearby woods. They were then able to guide officers on the ground to that location.

Police say the officers found the 80-year-old woman who had been in the snow and wasn’t able to get up on her own.
