If you really want to get a better insight into the issues I’ve been sharing with you from the DC Fire and EMS Department I suggest you take the time to watch these two videos.
The video above is the testimony I mentioned yesterday (Friday) from Deputy Chief Kevin Byrne who heads the chief officer’s association. Chief Byrne, who was ordered to retire at the end of last year, gives the most damning testimony about a DC fire chief I’ve ever heard. Byrne told a reporter afterwards that Chief Kenneth Ellerbe has ruined the department.
Below is another view. It comes from Lt. Porter Lawson Jr. who runs the department’s high school cadet program. Lawson believes the recent media focus and criticism on this important initiative of Chief Ellerbe and his boss, Mayor Vincent Gray, is unwarranted. Lt. Lawson has high praise for the work of the chief.
