Thank you Mike Moura (@nefirebuff) for sharing the picture of the day. It comes from this evening’s (Wednesday) eight-alarm fire in Boston. It’s about time we had a recent version of this pumping technique to share.
Below you can see that in addition to connecting to the hydrant via the shortest route the car was moved to get the kink out of the line.

An eight-alarm fire tore through three buildings and a car in East Boston tonight, but all the residents got out safely, officials said.
The fire department responded at 7:23 p.m. to 85 Lexington St., a 2 1/2-story wood-frame house. Smoke was showing on arrival, fire officials said.

Officials said the fire began inside a car at 85 Lexington St. and spread to other buildings in the area.
Fire officials said at least one firefighter was being evaluated at the scene, but officials didn’t think that person would need to be brought to a hospital.
Officials also said there were initial reports that people were trapped inside on the third floor in one building, but they have all been accounted for.
