Exploding ammunition from a burning Oceanside, California home on Sunday struck a nearby home and slightly hurt a firefighter.
About 20 firefighters from Oceanside and Vista were sent to the home on Meadowbrook Drive near North Melrose Drive at 7:15 a.m. found the garage in flames with shotgun shells and bullet casings exploding inside, Battalion Chief Felipe Rodriguez of the Oceanside Fire Department said.
A firefighter was struck by a casing fragment and sustained a minor injury, Rodriguez said. He was treated at the scene and released back to duty.
