Body falls out of PA coroner’s vehicle into middle of busy street

The image taken by Jerry Bradley at noon Friday in Bucks County, Pennsylvania has been making its way around social media, including on the Firefighters Worldwide Facebook page. It was finally officially confirmed Saturday evening that Bradley’s description of what happened was exactly right. You are looking at a dead body that fell out of the back of a coroner’s vehicle onto Street Road in Lower Southampton Township.

According to Tom Sofield at LevittownNow.com, Jerry Bradley was waiting at a traffic signal and originally thought it was a prank when he saw the gurney came out of the back of the vehicle. Bradley helped a woman with the coroner’s office put everything back into the vehicle.

Sofield says the official description came at 7:29 Saturday evening:

At approximately 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014, the Bucks County Coroner’s office realized that a rear door mechanical malfunction had taken place during the transport of a deceased individual on Street Rd. in Lower Southampton Twp. The driver immediately knew that this malfunction occurred. The driver of the transport vehicle returned to make the transport complete, with the help of a bystander and in a matter of moments. Care was taken to respect the deceased individual in this instance. The Bucks County Coroner’s Office deeply regrets this incident and will take steps to ensure that it is not repeated in the future.
