Early video of Laytonsville, MD house fire

Early video above and below from Jeff Westley of a house fire last (Thursday) night in Laytonsville, Maryland (Montgomery County).

WJLA-TV/ABC 7:

A disabled veteran and his wife were injured escaping a blaze Thursday night that consumed their home just outside Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue officials said it appeared the fire at 8018 Warfield Road in Laytonsville started in the attached garage of the home and quickly spread.

When firefighters arrived, they said the house was engulfed in “heavy flames” and it took a massive firefighting effort to finally knock the blaze down.

Authorities said the couple were inside the house when the fire broke out; they heard a smoke detector alarm go off and made it to their front door, where a neighbor helped carry them to safety.

Both were transported to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries were unclear. Firefighters at the scene initially said the couple were burned, but a fire department spokesman later noted that the two likely suffered from smoke inhalation.

The home was heavily damaged in the blaze, but no damage estimate was immediately available.

And while investigators believed they had pinpointed where the fire started, the cause had not yet been determined.
