In late July we told you about the criminal charges against Cleveland Fire Department Captain Ron Vargo and firefighter Richard Nickerson who are accused of filing a false report in connection with a ladder truck wreck. Now the surveillance camera video that provided the key evidence for the case has been made public. Both men have entered pleas of not guilty.
Back in June, a ladder truck cut through a parking lot at East 116 and Buckeye. The video shows the truck driving straight into the light pole and knocking it over.
Records show the fire truck driver told investigators he had to swerve to miss another car trying to cut him off. Records also show the driver’s boss backed up that story.
But as the truck hits the pole, the video does not show any other cars. You see an 18-wheeler turning around, but it is on the other side of a traffic island in the parking lot.
