UPDATED: Listen to audio – As clock struck midnight two chiefs retired in the middle of a 3-alarm fire

The fire was reported at 10:15 Tuesday evening. When the clock struck midnight Battalion Chief Robert Macready, the man in charge as four buildings burned in Atlantic City, New Jersey, turned over command and officially retired after 40 years on the job. According to Lynda Cohen of The Press of Atlantic City, Battalion Chief Kevin Bennett, also on the fireground, also officially began his retirement after more than 30-years with the department.

Macready, the incident commander at the fire, handed over his duties to Deputy Chief Vincent Granese, ending a 40-year career.
