Pre-arrival video from Moe T. Garba of a house fire around 5:00 yesterday (Monday) on D Street in Blaine, Washington (Whatcom County). Police report the man who lives there had set the home on fire in a suicide attempt. Law enforcement rescued the man from the house before the arrival of North Whatcom firefighters.
When a Blaine Police officer and a Border Patrol agent who had been nearby arrived, neighbors pointed out a gasoline can in the backyard and said they were unsure if anyone was in the house.
The Blaine officer peered through a broken window and spotted an unconscious man inside. He forced open the door and, with the help of the Border Patrol agent, pulled the man outside to safety as fire spread through the house, according to Blaine Police.
The man regained consciousness and became upset he had been rescued, according to police. He told them he set the fire and intended to die.
