UPDATE: Former Washington Capital Stephen Peat accused of setting father’s home on fire


We originally posted this video Monday morning not knowing that the suspect in this fire is former Washington Capitals player Stephen Peat. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police had been looking for the adult son of the owner of the home in Langley, British Columbia since last Tuesday. They found him and charged Peat with arson:

Peat was a Langley Thunder player in 1995 and 1996.

He also played for the Calgary Hitmen, and was drafted by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 1998, but was traded to the Washington Capitals.

The home that burned in Brookswood is listed as the residence of a Walter Peat.

RCMP reported that on March 17, there was a dispute of some kind between the father and son in the afternoon, which revived again in the evening.

The father had apparently gone to bed for the night when the fire was lit sometime after 10 p.m.
