One person is dead and another has critical injuries after a fire at a rowhouse in D.C. on Monday morning.

DC Fire and EMS‏ crews responded to the 1000 block of Kenyon St NW. They found fire showing from the second floor of the rowhouse.

Peter Hermann, The Washington Post:

The fire was reported a few minutes before 6:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Kenyon Street NW, police said. The fire extended from the upper floors of a rowhouse to three adjacent buildings, and was under control about 7:15 a.m.

Timothy J. Wilson, a fire department spokesman, said the two victims were found inside the house. He described their injuries as critical. Nine other people who lived in three houses on the block were displaced, Wilson said.

Diane Hart, who has lived on the block 50 years, said an elderly couple lived in the two-story white clapboard house. She said she saw flames and smoke coming from the second floor and roof.
