Breaking: San Diego Firefighters Stabbed on EMS Call

Two San Diego first responders were injured after being stabbed at the scene of a medical call Wednesday afternoon, local media reported.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. local time on Park Boulevard.

Police took the suspect into custody, he was taken away from the scene by ambulance.

It was not immediately clear the extent of injuries, although Phillips reported via Twitter that police classified the injuries as not life threatening. They were reportedly stabbed multiple times with a small knife.

A witness told NBC 7 that as officers were wrestling a suspect to the ground, a firefighter was stabbed on his left side.

The San Diego Union Tribune quoted a fire department spokesperson saying the initial response was for a sick person, finding an apparently drunk man at the location.

We will post additional details on this story as it develops.
