Oregon firefighter charged with sexually assaulting another firefighter during out of town training

Police in Texas have charged a former Oregon firefighter with sexually assaulting another firefighter when the pair were on a training trip in Grapevine last year. The two were among 12 Port of Portland Fire Department firefighters taking FAA training.

Since the incident, Jason McCann has been fired and the unidentified victim has resigned.

The victim’s husband is also a battalion chief at the same department.

KPTV-TV:

After almost a year into the investigation, the Grapevine, Texas police department issued a warrant for McCann’s arrest on sex assault charges.

At last check, he has not been taken into custody.

Court documents say the alleged victim received a settlement of $325,000 from the port.

Her husband, a fellow firefighter at the port, also received a settlement of $15 000. He claimed he had workplace anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress after the assault.

Everton Baily, The Oregonian:

Jason McCann, who had worked for the Port for eight years, was fired Aug. 17 and had been on leave since October 2014, said Port spokesman Steve Johnson. He said the agency would not release any more information on its findings.

McCann, 37, was indicted earlier this month on one count of sexual assault in Tarrant County, Texas, according to a county court clerk. Messages left for Paige Simpson, a Tarrant County assistant district attorney prosecuting the case, and messages at numbers listed for McCann have not been returned.
