Radio traffic: Mayday in Austin, Texas – 3 firefighters hurt
A three-alarm apartment fire this (Sunday) morning left three Austin, Texas firefighters and a police officer injured. You first hear the desperate mayday call at about 11:10 in the video above from firefighterdispatch.
Lt. Jeremy Burke, firefighter Willie Cook and firefighter Jimmy Casares suffered burns while they were attempting to rescue a potential victim from a room.
“As that fire fight was in progress,” Austin Fire Department Division Chief Palmer Buck said, ” the crews had a minor structure collapse that trapped three fire fighters briefly.”
Chief Buck said the firefighters were quickly rescued and then transported to Brackenridge Hospital. Firefighter Casares was later taken to the San Antonio Burn Center for additional treatment. The APD Officer suffered smoke inhalation and is spending the night in the hospital.
