Firefighter’s Facebook post blasts tow truck driver killed by train – Chief blasts firefighter

Today’s SMACSS (Social Media Assisted Career Suicide Syndrome) case comes from Bramtpon, Ontario. The fire chief says he is “shocked and offended” by Firefighter Darren LaCroix’s Facebook post Friday that blasts a tow truck driver who was killed when his rig was hit by a GO train.

The tow truck driver was at a three car collision near a rail station around 6:30 Friday morning. According to news reports, the driver inadvertently parked on the tracks after he moved the tow truck out of the way of responding fire apparatus. After realizing his mistake, the driver got back in to move the vehicle. It was then that a train hit the tow truck.

CP24.com reports LaCroix wrote “Are all GTA tow truck drivers fucking idiots?” and “Ya buddy at least you only hurt yourself this time and inconvenienced everybody else.”

Chris Fox, CP24.com:

LaCroix has since posted a message to Facebook, stating that he was unaware that the driver had lost his life and “expressing his since apologies and condolences” to the victim’s friends and family.

It should, however, be noted that LaCroix’s initial post included a link to a CTV News story with the headline “Driver dies after Milton GO train crashes into tow truck.”

In a statement provided to CP24 on Monday, Brampton Fire Chief Michael Clark said he is “shocked” by the initial remarks and notes that Lacroix will be spoken to regarding the comments.

“From what I’ve seen from the posting, we’re shocked and offended by it, and I don’t know what his personal issue is with tow truck operators but speaking for myself and his colleagues we see the tow trucks operators as our partners and we have a good working relationship with them,” he says. “I really don’t know where this originated and we are as shocked and surprised by this as anyone else.”
