Woman says she was served alcohol & sexually assaulted in Newark, NJ firehouse

Police and fire officials in Newark, New Jersey are investigating a 23-year-old woman’s allegations that she was served vodka inside a firehouse and sexually assaulted by two firefighters. According to news reports, the woman says she met two uniformed firefighters after getting separated from friends at a concert in Newark last week. The three ended up at the firehouse on Congress Street in Newark’s Ironbound section.

While the 23-year-old woman was in the firehouse, she says she was offered some alcohol and began drinking.

She was allegedly invited up to the sleeping quarters and went along. There are no indications she was forced.

According to the source, the woman had sexual encounters with two firefighters.

The firefighters involved in the alleged incident have not been suspended from the department, but do face administrative charges pertaining to bringing the victim back to the firehouse.

According to sources familiar with the nature of the investigation, the incident took place Wednesday evening after the alleged victim arrived at the firehouse after attending an event in downtown Newark.

An internal investigation by the Newark Fire Department’s Arson Unit, which is charged with conducting internal investigations, is active and ongoing, said a source familiar with the allegations.
