Caught on video: Firefighters met by burning horse at barn fire in California

Helmet-cam video shot early yesterday (Wednesday) by FresnoFireDepartment of a barn fire on Highway 99 in Fresno, California. The first firefighters were met by a horse on fire. Here’s the description with the video:

VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. Fresno Fire has had an incredibly busy year in 2015. We have fought over 2,700 fires with over 280 of those being working structure fires; we have run over 41,000 calls and counting. We had the Captain Dern incident among other stories that have made national news. This incident is just as unique as many of those other stories. Fresno Fire responded to a barn fire this morning and during the course of FFD fighting this fire, a horse was found to have been injured by the fire. Fortunately as the horse runs down the driveway a firefighter was able to put the fire out. Unfortunately the horse had to be put down due to the extent of their injuries. We often discuss the importance of fire safety and this is yet another tragic example of why fire departments throughout the country continue to try to educate the public on the dangers of fire and what they can do to prevent them.
