Before ‘Chicago Fire’ & ‘Backdraft’ there was ‘Chicago 2-1-2. Take a look.

Today the Chicago River is green, but it apparently wasn’t on the day in 1957 when the film below was shot (we can’t tell for sure because the film was in black and white). If you haven’t seen this before there are some pretty cool shots showing the Chicago Fire Department in action as part of the TV pilot “Chicago 2-1-2.”

“Chicago 2-1-2” was a failed TV pilot and the final episode of Dupont’s series “Cavalcade of America.”

The segment immediately below, shared on Facebook by my friend Fossil Medic Mike Ward, shows some great shots of Chicago fire apparatus responding to the building fire that is a major part of the plot of the show. The show features Chicago fire investigator Ed McCook played by actor Frank Lovejoy. At the bottom of this post is the entire half-hour show (actually 25:16). Enjoy.

back in the day ….
