Anyone want to defend this use of social media by a firefighter? It ranks near the top of things that are likely to cause a terminal case of SMACSS (Social Media Assisted Career Suicide Syndrome).

It’s a dick-pic shot on-duty and in uniform at a Clay County, Florida firehouse and then shared with a woman through an online dating site. Apparently the image, taken in a firehouse bathroom, did not impress the woman. She shared the picture on the Clay County Fire Rescue Facebook page and the image also made it’s way to WJAX-TV.

According to the TV station, Clay County Fire Chief Lorin Mock immediately placed Lt. Anthony Myrick on administrative leave pending an investigation. The investigation didn’t get very far because Lt. Myrick, an 11-year member of the department, soon resigned.

The TV station reports that Myrick has had a number of disciplinary issues in his past:

Myrick was given a written reprimand in 2010 after “inappropriate and unprofessional behavior” while he gave H1N1 vaccines at various local schools.

In 2011, the county found him guilty of incompetence, insubordination, neglect of duty and moral turpitude.

The documentation said he improperly treated two patients during medical emergencies and then falsified reports about it.

Myrick was required to recomplete his full medical clearance process. He was also demoted and made ineligible for promotion for two years.
