About 100 firefighters from five towns combatted the blaze in a chaotic scene of smoke and flame that smoldered for hours. Dozens of bystanders flocked to the area, some saying they came to lend a hand to the family who owned the home, who were preparing for a wedding next week.
The home was under construction and still awaiting township inspections, according to township police Sgt. Nathaniel Montgomery. Everyone inside at the time of the fire got out safely, one firefighter suffered minor injury related to exhaustion, according to incident commander Rodney Youmans of the Lakewood Fire Department.
