More details on the fire from Newsworking

Video above by Newsworking’s Bill Rohrer (newsworking) and below by Mike Nester (Nester Video Productions) and Dan Clerico (NortheastBravest.com) of a fire around noon today (Sunday) that caused heavy damage to the century old former home of the Diamond Fire Company at Main and Washington Streets in Walnutport, Pennsylvania (Northampton County). The original firehouse is across the street from the current station and housed the fire company’s bar.

Dan Sheehan, The Morning Call:

Walnutport Police said two people were inside when the fire started but they escaped safely. No one else was injured.

The fire began somewhere between the second and third floors and moved rapidly, exacerbated by a north-to-south wind that entered a vent atop the building.

“The wind took the fire and raced it through the roof, and it’s heavy timber up there,” said Walnutport fire Chief John Kirchner.

WFMZ-TV:

Crews in Northampton County are battling a four-alarm fire in a fire department building.

The Walnutport Fire Department’s social hall — once the Diamond Fire Company building — in the 200 block of Washington Street went up in flames around noon Sunday.

Heavy smoke can be seen billowing from the building from miles away.
