Initially, the smoke was heavy and drifting over nearby Interstate 70.

The fire is believed to have started in an outside trash storage area, then spread to a nearby 16-unit apartment complex.

WCMH-TV:

Firefighters tell NBC4 the flames were first spotted outside of the apartment in a shed. Wind then caught the flames and blew them about 20 feet into the adjacent apartment building.

When crews arrived on scene, the fire was spreading to the attic, so firefighters pulled a second alarm, requesting additional units to the scene to help battle the flames.

Two firefighters were taken to Grant Medical Center after a portion of the roof collapsed on top of them. The firefighters are expected to be OK, according to a Columbus Division of Fire spokesperson.
