Caught on video: Explosion that injured firefighters, EMTS & gas company workers in NJ

Below is police dash-cam video and radio traffic from today’s (Tuesday) natural gas explosion in Stafford Township, New Jersey (Ocean County) that injured firefighters and gas company workers.

A natural gas explosion disintegrated a house under renovation and injured 15 people, including two critically, officials said.

Seven of the injured were gas company workers, six were firefighters and two were emergency management technicians. Two gas company workers were reported to be in critical condition at AtlantiCare Medical Center in Atlantic City.

WPVI-TV:

The injured include seven New Jersey Natural Gas workers, six firefighters and two EMTs.

The explosion was reported around 10:30 a.m. in the unit block of Oak Avenue.

NJ.com:

The gas explosion occurred at a home on Oak Avenue near Route 9, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Homes in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precaution, he said.

New Jersey Natural Gas Co. spokesman Michael Kinney said crews were responding to a report of a natural gas leak when the explosion occurred. He said five gas company employees were hurt.

At least two of those injured were airlifted to a nearby hospital, according to Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy. NBC10 reported that one person suffered extremely critical injuries and required CPR at the scene and the two who were airlifted were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Trauma Unit in Atlantic City.
