Instead of early video above, we have early film. The short clips on this page are all from the archives of WSLS-TV, Channel 10 in Roanoke, Virginia. They were shot between 1969 and 1971 and were uploaded to YouTube over the past week by nutty.archives.

The film clips are mostly silent, but there is some SOF or sound-on-film. The topics are anything local TV might cover in that era, including politics and sports. I’ve pulled out a few fires for you to enjoy and will add a few more fire related clips in the coming days.

These are all from Roanoke and Roanoke County. The video above is from a house fire in Southwest Roanoke on January 22, 1971. The clip immediately below is from a fire a day earlier at the WSLS-TV studios.

The video below includes a nice John Wayne style door kick at a fire on March 16, 1971 at Old Dominion Knitware in Roanoke.

I believe the clip below is from Roanoke County (correct me if I’m wrong) taken during a house fire in the snow on March 7, 1970.

And one more, below, from Roanoke showing apparatus following a small fire at the Patrick Henry Hotel.
