UPDATE: Report that the suspect is dead as the investigation continues into this morning’s shooting on the Ohio State University campus. CNN reporting the suspect injured others with a knife and a car that drive into people. Witnesses say the suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement.

The Columbus Dispatch:

Ohio State University police are investigating a report of an active shooter on campus.

Eight people have been transported to local hospitals. One is in critical condition and seven are stable, said Deputy Chief Steve Martin, spokesman for Columbus fire.

The university issued an alert of an active shooter around 10 a.m. at Watts Hall at 19th Street and College. It urged students to shelter in place.

Some of the victims were wounded with a large knife, a law enforcement official told NBC News. It was unclear if any of the victims were shot. A student also reported seeing a car plow into a crowd.

The shelter in place was lifted just after 11:30am after police secured the scene. All classes for the rest of the day at Ohio State have been canceled.

The alert was first issued for an active shooter on Ohio State University’s Campus, Monday morning at about 9:56am. The alert said, “Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College.”
