Probationary firefighter charged in SC drug store arson

A firefighter is being investigated in connection with a small blaze at a Walgreens in Moncks Corner that authorities believe was intentionally set.

Randy Cannon Jr., a firefighter with the Moncks Corner Fire Department, is suspected to be involved in the fire that occurred inside the store Wednesday afternoon, according to Fire Chief David Miller. Jail records show Cannon was arrested early Thursday.

Miller said Cannon is a part-time employee at the Walgreens, 395 U.S. Highway 52, where a fire was reported at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday. Crews arrived within two minutes, and Cannon was not at the scene.

An affidavit states that surveillance showed Cannon entering a room at Walgreens which had to be opened with a key. 

According to the report, Cannon then remain inside of the room by himself for several minutes then left the room. 

Surveillance video showed that four minutes later, employees are seen leaving the building.
