Must see video from Detroit: This is a bit better version of the poor quality surveillance video of Detroit Fire Department’s Ladder 13 striking two cars on the way to a fire call. Click here for the details.

Come see us in Baltimore: At noon today I will be joining Mark Brady and Pete Piringer to talk about blogs, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, cameras used by first responders, cameras in the hands of the public and many of the scary unknowns as fire and EMS faces the digital world. Reputation management is also on the agenda at Firehouse Expo in Baltimore. Come see us and join the fun.

Also, stop by the Firegeezer booth (number 2200). Just make a left as you walk in and you will find us along the front wall. I will be hanging out there until Bill chases me away.

Oklahoma Trooper Martin gets 5 days and anger assessment: Citing an ongoing lawsuit the Oklahoma Highway Patrol refused to submit to questioning after announcing the findings of its report into the May 24 incident in Paden. Trooper Daniel Martin has agreed to accept the five day suspension without pay and undergo “anger assessment”. His attorney says the trooper wants to get all of this behind him. The report also finds that Paramedic Maurice White Jr. obstructed the officer and says the stop and an arrest were justified. Read it for yourself and watch the announcement of the findings. Judge says FDNY discriminated against black and Hispanic applicants: Big news from New York over FDNY’s testing of applicants. Read it here.

Read much awaited report on Elyria Fire Department: A much awaited audit and reorganization in Elyria, Ohio has been made public. Read the 331-page report. Read the stories here and here.

Another Houston story: According to the Chronicle, this one has the HFD reviewing its policies “after it was discovered that a former fire cadet (or is it a recruit?) who resigned after tying a noose and making inflammatory comments in front of black firefighters was readmitted to the fire academy”. Click here for the story.

A theme bar: This one honors heroes. In fact is called Hometown Heroes. Click here to read and watch a story about his bar opened by firefighters in Dunmore, Pennsylvania.

Another reason to stay in bed all day because nothing is safe: This time it is your Apple iPod that may be a fire hazard. Seattle’s KIRO-TV has worked 7-months to get the CPSC documents about burning iPods, fighting Apple all the way. Here’s the story.

Another one in the Baltimore County fire corridor: In Baltimore for Expo, I actually listened to this fire on St. Lukes Lane shot last night by Michael “FirePix1075” Schwartzberg. Woodlawn is a hot spot in the county, but this section on the south side of Liberty Road between Woodlawn Cemetery and I-695 seems to get more than its share of fires. Click here for Michael’s account on the Pikesville VFC website.
