Early video from cfmfd5 taken during a house fire Sunday directly across the street from the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company on East Baltimore Street in Taneytown, Maryland (Carroll County). More video below from MJ Media.

Interesting to note that of the seven news stories about this fire I found online not one even mentions that the fire was across the street from the firehouse. While not the most important fact, it certainly is among the more interesting details about the fire and worth mentioning. Once again a reminder that we need to teach people in the news business how to use a map.

But Emily Chappell at the Carroll County Times did report something even more interesting about the fire. This was the second fire reported at this address on Sunday:

Preliminary cause is believed to be accidental due to the thawing of pipes, according to the notice. Occupants safely escaped, and according to the notice, are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Mike Glass, of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company, said there were actually two fires at that property Sunday. The first was a small fire, put out by the tenant and landlord. While Glass said the fire department was called for the first fire, he doesn’t know what they did at that time.

Shortly after, there was a larger fire and the department came and battled that blaze, Glass said. He could not provide additional information about the second fire.
