The National Transportation Safety Board is en route Friday to Massachusetts to investigate a series of gas explosions that caused 60 to 80 fires in homes across the Merrimack Valley. NTSB announced that Chairman Robert Sumwalt will discuss the explosions at 8 a.m. ET from Washington.

Evacuations remain in place as Columbia Gas service employees continue to go door-to-door to every home in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover. One teenager died and at least 25 people were treated for injuries Thursday following the mysterious explosions.

Leonel Rondon, 18, of Lawrence, died after an explosion caused a chimney to crash into his car.

Columbia Gas said in a statement Friday that more than 8,000 people were affected by the explosions.
