Dozens of firefighters responded to a fire in an office building near Bryant Park this morning. Thick dark clouds of smoke and flames could be seen from all around the area, as shown in the photos and videos below.
NBC reports that the blaze started in the lobby when Christmas ornaments caught fire. One person at the scene told us, “The building was carpeted in, like, ‘festive’ greenery—I’m not sure if it was real or artificial. The fire started really small and get huge and smoky very quickly, so I called 911 (who were aware of the situation but thought it was a Christmas tree on fire) and left

Five dozen firefighters responded to the fire at 333 Madison Avenue, a block from Grand Central Terminal.
The Fire Department is looking into whether Christmas decorations that were hanging outside the building caught fire.
