Godfrey Fire Protection District Capt. Jacob “Jake” Ringering

Godfrey Fire Captain Jake Ringering was killed Tuesday while fighting an afternoon blaze in Bethalto, in the 4000 block of Culp Lane.

Another firefighter with the department, Luke Warner, suffered injuries and was transfered from the scene be helicopter. He is in stable condition, according to a press release sent Tuesday night by Alton Fire Chief Bernie Sebold.

A second release from Madison County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Mike Dixon says two other firefighters were also injured and have since been released from the hospital. Their names were not released.

KSDK-TV:

The fire was at a home on Culp Lane Tuesday evening. A press release from the Godfrey Fire Protection District said Captain Jacob Ringering suffered serious injuries when part of the building collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

The release said three other firefighter were injured. Two have been treated and released while one is in stable condition at a St. Louis hospital
