UPDATE:

On Wednesday evening, shortly after we posted the message from regs1, an administrator at TheWatchDesk.com, about the impending temporary closing of the TWD, the message that had been up since early morning on some parts of the site was edited. Here is the entire message as it currently exists:

Thewatchdesk.com has always considered itself a source of free speech and ideas.

Because of economics, our current hosting company is closing down, however a new company has been found, but will take a couple of weeks to complete the move. In making this type of move, threads might be lost, or old post lost. The decision to move the whole database, or just create a new one has not been made, and will depend upon the cost of doing so, So if you have any pictures, or post you like to save, please download ASAP.

I know this will put a damper of some of those who post on this blog, but the TWD will go on once the move is complete.

the board will closed this weekend until the final move, and new legal documents are filed.

EARLIER:

regs1 an anonymous administrator of the Internet forum TheWatchDesk.com (who acknowledges having been employed by DCFD in the Nation’s Capital) posted the above message announcing the “temporary closing” of the site starting this coming weekend. It is being done, according to the post, until a new hosting company can be found and the site reopened.

But the message starts with something a bit more ominous about TWD:

Thewatchdesk.com has always considered itself a source of free speech and ideas. Well a new low has been reached, one of the founding members have been threaten with loss of rank, or dismissal.

First:

The member concerned has completely removed himself from operating the web site . His name remains on some documents because of the time it will take to remove his name. But the member is no longer part of the website.

In the message, regs1 says TWD will continue when the move is complete and concludes this way:

Again it is with deep regret that a government agency can threaten an employee, but in looking what has been done by veterans affairs, and Dept of Energy to freedom of speech issues, and basically TWD does not have the resource to fight this in court to protect a past member-

the board will closed this weekend until the final move, and new legal documents are filed.
