Firefighters in Manchester battled a massive fire Friday that spread to multiple apartment buildings and displaced 12 families.
The fire on Spruce Street between Beech and Maple streets was reported about 3:30 p.m. Fire officials said two multi-level apartment buildings were complete losses, along with several cars that got charred in a nearby parking lot.
Several surrounding buildings were also damaged. The fire was so hot it melted siding on some of them. The black smoke could be seen for miles.
