Firefighter killed in Pennsylvania house fire

A firefighter was killed when a porch roof collapsed while he was battling a house fire early Monday morning in Cumberland County.
A woman, who was trapped inside the home when the fire broke out on the 1500 block of Boiling Springs Road, also died in the blaze. A man who lived there was severely injured and taken to an area hospital.
Their names have not yet been released, but Pennsylvania State Police spokeswoman Trooper Megan Ammerman said the firefighter was from Mount Holly Springs.
The house was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived around 1:30 a.m. Monday. Smoke is still coming from the house as they continue to fight the fire. There is no word yet on what caused the fire.
“The house was fully engulfed in flames. During response, a roof collapsed on a firefighter,” Pennsylvania State Trooper Megan Ammerman said. “Our condolences go to the family and to the department.”
The firefighter has not yet been named, but he was a volunteer from the Citizen’s Fire Company in Mount Holly Springs.
“This is the second fire line-of-duty death in the past year in this area. So, you know, it’s just a very hard time for everybody,” Ammerman said.
Officials say they’ll be here along Boiling Springs Road in Monroe Twp., for several hours investigating the second alarm fire that killed two people including a firefighter.
