A fire charred a 20-by-20 foot space at a metal scrap yard in Otay Mesa Sunday afternoon, sending a plume of smoke into the sky that could be seen for miles.
The fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. at a yard on Heritage Road near Pogo Row, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Munoz said. The street, which is east of Brown Field Municipal Airport, is lined with a number of scrap yards and recycling businesses
