A 9-alarm fire on Beacon Street has claimed the lives of two firefighters.
The multi-alarm fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at 298 Beacon Street. Several mayday calls were made.
Sources tell WBZ-TV, two firefighters were killed in the fire.
Two Boston firefighters were killed Wednesday when a massive nine-alarm fire ripped through a Beacon Street brownstone, sources tell NewsCenter 5.
At least 18 others, including several firefighters, were taken to local hospitals after the blaze.
The fire broke out in the basement of 298 Beacon St. at about 2:45 p.m. and quickly grew to a nine-alarm blaze. A firefighter in the basement made a mayday call.
“The fire rapidly advanced throughout the floors,” said Boston Fire’s Steve MacDonald. “It is still raging from the inside.”

Two Boston firefighters died today while battling a wind-whipped nine-alarm blaze that raced through a rowhouse in the city’s fashionable Back Bay neighborhood, according to two people with direct knowledge of the case.
Firefighters responded at 2:43 p.m. to the four-story brick rowhouse, where a fire was spreading upward from the basement, fanned by winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour
Details of how the firefighters died weren’t immediately available. But some firefighters had been trapped in the burning building’s basement, officials said
A total of 18 people were transported to the hospital, Boston Emergency Medical Services spokesman Nick Martin said. Martin said he had no information on their conditions or whether they were firefighters or civilians.
