The Sanford Fire Department opened an administrative investigation Thursday morning into a firefighter who was reportedly photographed among the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, according to agency spokeswoman Bianca Gillett.

“We are aware [of the photo] and the firefighter is employed with the Sanford Fire Department,” Gillett said in a statement Thursday morning.

Gillett identified the firefighter as Andy Williams, who is also a trained paramedic and has been with the agency since 2016. She said the agency was looking into any potential policy violations or criminal charges, and Williams is currently on paid administrative leave.

The Sanford Fire Department said Thursday that an investigation has been launched.

“We are aware and the firefighter is employed with the Sanford Fire Department. The Sanford Fire Department has begun an Administrative Investigation into the information,” a statement from the department read.
