News reports indicate Detroit Fire Department’s Chief 5 was arrested early this (Monday) morning suspected of driving under the influence after his vehicle crashed while responding to a reported fire. The call was at 2:00 a.m. This crash occurs about a week after an on-duty firehouse retirement party with alcohol apparently resulted in the crash of a rig responding to an EMS call.
Shawn Ley & Kayla Clarke, WDIV-TV:
Repeated calls were made on the radio, but Chief 5 could not be reached, sources said.
Eventually, Chief 5 was found in the department’s SUV, hanging over the Lodge Freeway. He was unable to get out of the SUV. He said he was not injured.
