A fire captain in Frederick County, Maryland has died after a floor collapsed during a house fire this (Wednesday) afternoon. The announcement of the line-of-duty-death came at 10:00 pm ET (video above).
The house fire fire on Ball Road was reported at 4:48 pm. First arriving Engine 251’s officer, Capt. Joshua Laird, fell through the floor into the basement. When he was rescued, Capt. Laird was flown to Medstar in Washington, DC where he was pronounced dead.
Frederick County officials did not answer questions after announcing the death of Capt. Laird.
A firefighter has been taken to a hospital via helicopter after suffering injuries during a house fire in the 9500 block of Ball Road in Ijamsville.
Frederick County deputy fire chief Steven Leatherman said after units were called to that area, a male firefighter from the first engine on scene entered the house and fell through the floor into the basement. The firefighter issued a ‘mayday,’ and a rescue operation was requested.

UPDATE: Md. State Police airlifted a firefighter to MedStar Washington Hospital Center in DC.
