Caught on camera: Police chase stolen ladder truck in California

Man stands in front of Orange County Fire Authority rig trying to convince driver to surrender

KABC-TV:

A man was taken into custody after leading the California Highway Patrol on a chase through Orange County in a stolen fire truck.

Truck 85 was stolen from UCI Medical Center around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday as firefighters were dropping off a patient at the hospital, authorities say.

Near the end of the chase, a bystander walked up and stood in front of the fire truck, placed his hand on the windshield and talked to the driver, apparently trying to convince him to surrender.

Eventually the suspect got out and crawled on the street to surrender to officers.

Tony Kurzweil, KTLA-TV:

Video showed the stolen truck on the southbound 5 Freeway, leading several patrol vehicles and a helicopter on a chase that eventually made its way to Anaheim.

That’s where a man stood in front of the fire truck with his hand raised to the windshield.

The driver tried to back up several times to go around the man but was never able to get the truck past him.

At one point, the man could be seen talking to the driver through the windshield.
