The many fire companies closing in Pennsylvania in recent years has resulted in longer response times as coverage is picked up by neighboring fire companies. In this case, Vernon Township officials recently forced the shut down of Vernon Township VFD #27 due to what they call a “lack of financial responsibility.” Erie News Now looks at how a fire was handled yesterday (Thursday) without the closest fire company being available.
